What we are here for

A pharmacy is one of the few places most people encounter healthcare regularly. For a lot of households it is the first stop when someone falls ill, and often the only stop. That puts a real responsibility on whoever is behind the counter.

We took that as the starting point. Stock medicine from licensed suppliers and store it properly. Employ someone qualified and let them take the time to explain things. Test before treating, rather than guessing. Say plainly when someone needs a doctor instead of selling them something that will not help.

None of that is remarkable. It is simply what a chemist ought to be. But it is not universal, and it is the reason people come back.

On counterfeit and poorly stored medicine

Substandard and falsified medicine is a genuine problem across the region, and it is not something a customer can detect by looking at a packet. A medicine that has been stored in heat, or that has passed its expiry, or that never contained what the label claimed, will not make anyone better, and by the time that becomes obvious, money and time are already gone, and the illness has had longer to develop.

This is the single strongest argument for buying from a chemist you can identify, return to, and hold responsible. We source through licensed channels and we store stock the way it is meant to be stored. If we do not have what you need, we will tell you so rather than offering a substitute you did not ask for.

Testing, not guessing

Fever in Nyanza is treated as malaria far more often than it actually is malaria. Typhoid, flu, urinary infections and gut infections all look much the same in the first days. That is why we test.

A malaria test costs KSh 100 and takes about 15 minutes. Blood pressure checks are free and always will be. Blood sugar testing is available at the counter. In each case, we explain the result rather than announcing it, a number nobody has explained is not much use to anyone.

Where the limits are

A pharmacist is not a doctor, and we will not act like one. We cannot diagnose you, we cannot examine you the way a clinician would, and there are conditions that need a hospital today rather than tablets.

When that is the situation, we will say so directly and tell you where to go. Sending someone to a facility is not a lost sale. It is the difference between a chemist you can trust with your family and one you cannot.
